How Can I Help You Become a Better Singer?
Just like you, I was once only limited to daydreaming about being on stage. I wanted people to hear my voice but I did not know how or where to start. So I spent lots and lots of time figuring out how my dreams on paper can be put into action. It was not easy, rigorous training, harsh criticism, and disinterest from people almost made me quit.
However, I managed to gain priceless knowledge not only about myself but about performing and the industry as well. These are lessons I found out the hard way and would like to impart to you so you would know what to expect and how to move past the challenges and keep going.
Today, while I am far from being top 10 on the Billboard charts, I am able to share my voice with an audience and make a living out of it.
The experience I gain from this journey are now things I can write about and share with you. Even though my experiences are not universal, they can happen to you and provides great advice on the best way to become a famous singer. If this article can help you get started following your dreams and overcome the struggles involved, then that would make me feel like I did my job and a great one at that.
The Hard Truth
The truth is that there is no secret recipe for becoming the best singer in the world. Even if you have the most amazing voice, perfect technique and vocal control, it is possible that you still might not get famous. The reality is that being famous is not only about talent. A big part of it goes to luck; being in the right place, at the right time, and doing the right thing.
Even famous singers you see on the charts did not sing to an audience and wake up the next day to a solid and loyal fanbase that is eager to cheer for them. These people have likely either worked hard to be visible or have important connections within the music industry. Many people are willing to work hard to become a famous singer they have always dreamed of. Not everyone reaches their goals.
However, this should not stop you from dreaming. It is crucial to remember that the famous people you see on the charts were much like you too. Everyone starts out as a dreamer. It’s the work you put in that determines how far you’ll go.
Stepping Stones to Becoming a Famous Singer
First, I would like to say right off the bat that this article will not turn you into a famous singer overnight. What I am providing you here is not the secret to fame and how to become a famous singer fast but steps that you can take to get there. Even though being famous requires great luck, that does not mean you can only wait in stagnation until it finds you. You must seek it yourself!
Here are a few tips on how you can pave your own way to fame:
Tip #1: Training
The first step on how to become a famous singer is, of course, to learn how to sing. There are plenty of ways to do this, from watching YouTube videos to reading articles and training yourself. Even as simple as singing along to your favorite songs can help.
Still, a little more organization can go a long, long way. Find a great regimen to follow–warmups, workouts, and cooldowns. Here is an article I have written that includes a daily vocal workout regimen that you can follow. And here is another piece that gives you over 45 tips on how to become a better singer.
However, singing is not the only thing you want to learn if you want to be a famous singer. Part of being a famous singer is performing on stage, which requires more than just standing around with a mic. This is where taking acting classes or improv lessons (1) will come in handy.
Tip #2: Invest in Voice Lessons
You can do all the self-training you want but the best way to become a famous singer is to get actual vocal lessons to teach you useful vocal and breathing techniques. These are sure to help improve the way you sound. Vocal coaches are professionals who have studied everything there is to know about voice. If there is anyone out there who can help you reach your full potential as a singer, it would be vocal coaches.
Understandably, not everyone has the time of the day to drive all the way to a coaching session. This is why you need to enroll in some of the best singing lessons available. Find out what course will help you sing better anytime and anywhere.
Tip #3: Gameplan
How can you be a famous singer? Once again, fame is not a guarantee. Because of its uncertainty, you must keep a realistic gameplan. Your success as a singer should not just depend on whether you become famous. Decide how far you want to go and set realistic goals.
Personally, my goal was to make a living out of singing. This does not necessarily mean becoming famous but a steady set of gigs and constantly. Part of the plan was also to get my voice out there, be heard and be known.
Tip #4: A Unique Image
- Voice. Having a great voice does not guarantee fame but practicing your vocal styles and creating a singing style that is uniquely yours will set you apart from the crowd. This makes people more likely to remember you.
- Name. Now that you know you should have a voice people immediately associate with you, it is equally important to have a name that creates an impact. However, try not to just stick with something that sounds cool at the moment. Remember that your name will become the title of your brand and you will have to stick with it for a very long time.
- Style. When you hear “Lady Gaga” you immediately think of her unique and borderline-strange fashion sense. Now, when I say you should develop a style that makes you stand out, it does not necessarily mean you should raid your fridge for meat and start making a dress out of it. By a unique sense of fashion, I meant something that makes you stand out and gives you your signature look, like Ariana Grande’s high ponytail or Patrick Stump’s trilby.
Tip #5: Learn to Take Constructive Criticism
Nobody is perfect, so be thankful when people give you constructive criticism. The first step to becoming one of the best singers in the world is to accept the fact that it is impossible to be right all the time. This is the key to opening yourself up to the opportunity to learn and continue growing in the industry. You can also make a powerful tool from being able to handle criticisms (2).
However, this does not mean you should listen to every single criticism that comes from the people around you, especially unsolicited ones. You must learn to distinguish between people who genuinely want to see you improve and those who want to bring you down. There is a line between constructive criticism and blatant hate and negativity.
Tip #6: Create a Following
Now you have the talent, the name, and the look, how do you become a famous singer that draws attention? Marketing. Now you have to start introducing yourself as a singer. Doing this will immediately turn people’s attention to the fact that you can sing, and that you have a desire to be noticed through your ability. The next time they think of someone they can invite to sing in a social gathering, it just might be you!
Consistency is the key to creating a decent following. The moment you get yourself out there, you must continue providing content so the people who see you do not simply move on to something else. Creating a following means people who anticipate meeting you or seeing you on your shows and listening to the music you create. A great following can even be a source of good advice and motivation!
Tip #7: Get Paid Singing
There are plenty of ways to get paid singing, but it is important to realize that opportunity simply will not walk up to you and ask you to sing for money. You must take initiative and audition for gigs or contests, create your own YouTube channel, and start getting traction from there. Or, if you have a small home studio, look for small voice gigs on the internet!
Tip #8: Involve Yourself with Like-Minded People
There is nothing more valuable than having a friend in the same industry who understands everything you have to go through on an almost personal level because they have experienced something similar themselves. Involving yourself with people from the music industry can also help you make connections, and give you the information you would not have otherwise if you are out of the loop.
Aside from this, you can also make yourself even more visible by singing or collaborating with others who have their own following. This will let their fans and followers know that you exist and, in turn, let yours know about them too!
Keep Singing
There will be plenty of times when you ask yourself if this is all worth it. Should you just give up right and call it quits? During these times, it is extremely important that you KEEP GOING. Find a good support system of people who genuinely care about you and want to see you succeed. If you really need to, consider taking a break, but come back as soon as you are able and do not give up on your dreams!
You can achieve anything you put your mind and heart effort into. Now that you have my tips on how to start a singing career and how to get famous for singing, you can now start planning your next move. Practice and keep singing!
